Understanding Your Options.
Body armor is rated by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) based on the threats it is designed to stop. The most common levels for law enforcement:
- 01 Level IIIA Protects against most handgun threats including .44 Magnum. The standard for soft concealable armor worn under a uniform shirt.
- 02 Level III Protects against rifle threats. Typically hard plate inserts worn in an outer carrier.
- 03 Level IV Highest protection against armor-piercing rifle rounds. Used in tactical and high-risk situations.

How You Wear It.
Concealable armor is worn under your uniform shirt and is the most common choice for patrol officers. Outer carriers are worn over the uniform and are increasingly popular for comfort, ventilation, and modular accessory attachment. Many officers carry both depending on their assignment.
